Gonzaga Could Turn to Transfer Portal for Backcourt Help After Mario Saint-Supery’s Departure

Gonzaga suddenly has two open roster spots after sophomore guard Mario Saint-Supery decided to return to Spain, signing a multi-year contract with Valencia Basket. The move comes just months after the Bulldogs also lost German guard Jack Kayil, who chose to remain in the NBA Draft, leaving Mark Few with an unexpected hole at point guard.

Although many of the top transfer options have already found new teams, several experienced guards remain available and could help strengthen a Gonzaga backcourt that currently includes Houston transfer Isiah Harwell, sophomore Davis Fogle, and newcomers Nathan de Sousa, Juwan Ekanga-Ehawa, and four-star freshman Luca Foster.

Here are three transfer guards Gonzaga could pursue before the 2026-27 season.

Tijan Saine – Weber State

Tijan Saine stands out as one of the top point guards still available in the transfer portal. The 5-foot-11 guard from Everett, Washington, spent the 2025-26 season at Weber State after transferring from Division II Western Washington.

Saine made an immediate impact in the Big Sky, averaging 17.5 points, 4.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 52.2% inside the arc, 34.7% from three-point range, and 89.6% at the free-throw line. Despite being undersized, his scoring ability, playmaking, and offensive efficiency could make him a valuable addition to Gonzaga’s backcourt.

Myles Rice – Maryland

Veteran guard Myles Rice is another intriguing option. The rising senior has played at multiple programs and brings significant high-major experience.

Rice burst onto the scene at Washington State, earning Pac-12 Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 14.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 steals while helping lead the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament. He later transferred to Indiana, where he averaged 10.1 points and 2.8 assists while improving his perimeter shooting.

After moving to Maryland, injuries and team struggles limited Rice to just 17 appearances last season, resulting in career-low averages of 5.6 points and 1.3 assists. However, he posted career-best percentages from both three-point range (34.4%) and the free-throw line (92.6%).

While Rice isn’t known as an elite outside shooter, his scoring instincts, ball-handling, and 84 games of major-conference experience make him an appealing candidate for Gonzaga.

Wei Lin – Oregon

Another potential target is Oregon guard Wei Lin, a 22-year-old from China who gained valuable experience during his first collegiate season.

Lin appeared in 30 games and made nine starts for the Ducks, averaging 6.6 points and 1.7 assists in just under 18 minutes per game. His overall three-point percentage finished at 29.5%, though he improved to 32.9% over the second half of the season after a slow start.

Before arriving at Oregon, Lin starred professionally for the Nanjing Monkey King in China, averaging 21 points, 5.0 assists, and 3.3 rebounds during the 2024-25 campaign after posting 20 points, 4.3 assists, and 38.3% three-point shooting the previous season.

If Lin’s professional scoring ability carries over more consistently in college, he could compete for meaningful minutes alongside Nathan de Sousa and provide Gonzaga with another capable ball-handler as the Bulldogs reshape their backcourt.
