LSU football’s summer recruiting efforts have experienced a mix of highs and lows. The Tigers took a hit when five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant backed off his commitment, but they quickly recovered by landing a pledge from fellow five-star prospect KJ Green just days later. According to 247Sports, Green is actually rated ahead of Bryant, checking in as the No. 2 edge rusher and No. 6 overall prospect in the 2027 class. Bryant ranks as the No. 3 edge rusher and No. 20 overall player, although he holds a slight edge in the composite rankings.
Regardless of which prospect is viewed more favorably, edge rusher is not LSU’s most pressing recruiting need this cycle. The offensive line remains a much bigger area of focus. While the Tigers addressed several concerns up front through the transfer portal, additional reinforcements will be needed after this season. One of the program’s top targets to help secure the future of the position is Louisiana standout Albert Simien, a highly regarded member of the 2027 recruiting class.
Simien is regarded as one of the premier offensive line prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle, ranking No. 14 nationally and No. 2 among interior offensive linemen in the 247Sports Composite. The Louisiana standout made a trip to Baton Rouge in April, and by most accounts the visit was a positive one. However, recent recruiting intel suggests LSU may be facing an uphill battle.
According to Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman, Texas A&M remains firmly in the driver’s seat for Simien’s commitment.
“After a 10th trip back to College Station for his official visit earlier this month, I still view the Aggies as the team to beat as Simien’s recruitment winds down,” Spiegelman wrote Wednesday.
Spiegelman currently places his confidence level at 70% for Texas A&M to ultimately secure Simien’s pledge. He also views Notre Dame as the Aggies’ primary competition in the race, with LSU seemingly trailing the frontrunners.
Of course, plenty can change before National Signing Day arrives. Recruiting battles often take unexpected turns, and coaching staffs have months to make their final pitch. Still, the latest outlook is not particularly encouraging for LSU, as the Tigers appear to have ground to make up if they hope to land one of the nation’s top offensive line recruits.
