Commanders Add Patriots Tight End Amid Injury Concerns

The Washington Commanders have faced increasing criticism over their roster in recent weeks. Those concerns appeared to intensify following a disastrous joint practice with the Baltimore Ravens and grew even louder after Washington suffered a humiliating 41-3 loss to Baltimore in the preseason finale.

Despite the criticism surrounding the team, Washington continues to make moves aimed at strengthening its roster ahead of the regular season. On Tuesday, the Commanders added two tight ends to their practice squad as veteran backup Ben Sinnott works through an oblique injury.

“Washington signed 4 more to the practice squad today: T Esa Pole, TE Joshua Simon, TE Jack Westover and CB Isaac Yiadom,” ESPN’s John Keim reported on X Tuesday morning. “They now have 16 players on the PS.”

Commanders reporter Ben Standig also noted the significance of the additions, writing that Washington was bringing in two tight ends at a time when Sinnott is dealing with an oblique injury.

Westover, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 252 pounds, spent the previous two seasons with the New England Patriots. Simon, meanwhile, is 6-foot-4 and 239 pounds. He spent the 2025 season on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad before being released as one of the team’s final roster cuts on Sunday.

The additions give Washington additional depth at tight end while Sinnott deals with his injury, providing the team with more options as it prepares for the start of the regular season.
