Dale Jr. Challenges Keselowski to Follow Through on Hocevar Payback Threat
Carson Hocevar may have another confrontation waiting for him.
That appears to be the feeling throughout the NASCAR Cup Series garage after Hocevar’s incident with Brad Keselowski at Darlington Raceway last weekend. Keselowski was visibly frustrated after the race and made it clear that he intended to settle the score.
“His day’s coming, and it’s coming hard. Watch out, Carson,” the RFK Racing driver warned.
Whether Keselowski will actually retaliate on the track, however, is another matter. Dale Earnhardt Jr. isn’t convinced that the veteran driver will follow through.
Dale Jr. Questions Keselowski’s Threat
During his podcast, Dale Jr. pointed out that NASCAR drivers frequently make strong statements immediately after an incident, only for the promised retaliation to never happen.
“If you’re gonna say it, go do it,” Earnhardt said. “I’m not picking on Brad, but I’m just saying, how many times have we heard drivers say, ‘Well, it’s going to come back on him. It’s gonna be tough on him down the road?’”
TJ Majors, who served as Keselowski’s spotter at Darlington, also suggested that Hocevar would eventually face consequences for the incident.
Earnhardt, however, wasn’t convinced.
“I don’t think that’s gonna happen,” he said.
Drivers understandably become emotional after crashes, particularly when they believe another competitor is responsible. Yet NASCAR history is filled with examples of drivers threatening revenge without actually carrying it out.
Hocevar has certainly given his competitors plenty of reasons to be angry. Ryan Blaney, Ryan Preece, Zane Smith, Corey Heim and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. have all had run-ins with the young Spire Motorsports driver, but none ultimately responded with the kind of retaliation Keselowski is now suggesting.
Hocevar Continues to Embrace the Attention
Earnhardt also believes Hocevar has learned how to capitalize on the attention surrounding his on-track antics.
According to Dale Jr., the 23-year-old has embraced the merchandise opportunities and social media buzz generated by the controversy.
“He’s kinda been given a little bit of a playbook on how to turn everything into a T-shirt, and he’s not gonna let off the gas on that,” Earnhardt explained.
He added that Hocevar is likely to continue stirring things up whenever he gets out of the race car rather than trying to resolve every disagreement privately.
“He doesn’t want to sit down with Brad and talk it out,” Earnhardt said.
Hocevar himself appeared unfazed by Keselowski’s warning. Rather than responding with another serious threat, he offered a short, humorous answer when asked about the possibility of retaliation.
“I’ll tighten my belt,” Hocevar said.
RFK Racing’s Social Media Jab Backfires
The situation became even more entertaining when RFK Racing’s social media team joined the conversation.
Following the incident, the team posted a sarcastic message on X referring to Hocevar as a “self-proclaimed iPad kid” while poking fun at the caution involving Keselowski.
Hocevar wasn’t about to ignore the jab.
The young driver had already created a merchandise promotion tied to his performance in the Southern 500. He had announced that finishing outside the top 30 would result in a 77% discount as a form of “punishment.” If he finished inside the top 30, the discount would instead be determined by how many positions he gained after starting 34th.
