Following a scheduled day off for both clubs on Monday, the Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets are preparing for a three-game series this week. The matchup will take place at Citi Field, giving New York home-field advantage.
The Mets enter the series with a 59-72 record, making this a disappointing season for the club so far. However, they still have an opportunity to close out the year on a positive note. Milwaukee, meanwhile, brings MLB’s best record into the series and will look to continue its strong run.
Ahead of Tuesday’s series opener, the Mets announced an update concerning Mark Vientos, who has been working his way back through a minor league rehab assignment.
Mets’ Mark Vientos Sent to AAA Syracuse
According to his transactions tracker, Mark Vientos has been assigned to Triple-A Syracuse as he continues his minor league rehab assignment.
That could mean Vientos is nearing a return to the New York Mets.
NBC Sports’ David Shovein previously provided an update on Vientos’ rehab, noting that the 26-year-old slugger had been sidelined since shortly before the All-Star break after suffering a fracture in his right hand. He was expected to remain on his rehab assignment through at least the weekend before potentially rejoining the Mets the following week.
Before being placed on the injured list, Vientos was batting just .211/.256/.388 with 11 home runs and 35 RBIs across 254 plate appearances.
With the Mets having endured a disappointing season, Vientos will still have an opportunity to make an impact when he returns. Given his struggles at the plate over the past two seasons, however, he’ll need to take advantage of his chances and show he can provide consistent production down the stretch.
