2027 defensive lineman Chima Okechukwu of Mt. Zion Prep in Lanham, Maryland, has committed to Syracuse, announcing his decision on social media.
“Blessed to announce my commitment to Syracuse University,” Okechukwu shared in a post on X.
Okechukwu is currently unrated by the major recruiting services and chose the Orange over an offer from West Virginia, among other programs.
Okechukwu Previously Visited Syracuse for Camp
Okechukwu had already visited Syracuse earlier this summer, making the trip to campus during the weekend of June 5.
While attending the camp, Okechukwu reportedly ran a 4.84-second 40-yard dash and measured in at 6-foot-8 and 313 pounds. His impressive performance earned him Defensive MVP honors at the Franchise Camp.
Okechukwu Becomes the Fifth DL in His Class
With his commitment, Okechukwu becomes the 25th member of Syracuse’s 2027 recruiting class, which currently sits at No. 39 nationally according to 247Sports.
The Orange now have five committed defensive linemen in the class. That group includes Jason Lewis of Osceola in Kissimmee, Florida; Braylon Otis of Jones in Orlando, Florida; Bradyn Paulozzi of St. Edward’s in Lakewood, Ohio; and Edan Richardson of Archbishop McCarthy in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
