Panthers Bring in Veteran QB Kyle Trask for Workout After Will Grier’s Retirement
The Carolina Panthers appear to be reconsidering their quarterback depth during training camp.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the team is scheduled to work out free-agent quarterback Kyle Trask on Wednesday, potentially adding another arm to the roster.
Quarterback Depth Under Review
Since third-string quarterback Will Grier announced his retirement, the Panthers have entered training camp with only three quarterbacks on the roster.
Just last week, president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan indicated the team had no immediate plans to bring in another quarterback.
Morgan praised Grier following his retirement, wishing him and his family well while acknowledging the veteran’s lengthy football career.
Trask Offers Familiarity
Trask, 28, entered the NFL as a second-round selection out of Florida in the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first four professional seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he worked with current Panthers head coach Dave Canales during the 2023 campaign.
After leaving Tampa Bay, Trask joined the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad midway through the 2025 season, giving him experience with all three NFC South franchises.
Now, the former Buccaneers quarterback could have an opportunity to compete for a roster spot in Carolina if his workout with the Panthers leads to a contract.
