Rangers and Phillies Join Twins in Race for Dodgers Outfielder Alex Call

The Los Angeles Dodgers are receiving significant interest in outfielder Alex Call as the MLB trade deadline approaches on Monday, with the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies joining the Minnesota Twins in pursuing the versatile outfielder.

The Twins were previously reported to be interested in acquiring Call as they look to strengthen their roster for a playoff push. According to The Athletic, the Rangers also view him as a strong fit, while the Phillies have renewed their interest after unsuccessfully attempting to acquire him before the Dodgers did last season.

Call, 31, has been a reliable contributor off the bench for Los Angeles this year, batting .246 with one home run, 16 RBIs, 18 walks, and a .668 OPS. Although the Dodgers appreciate his value as a reserve, the recent returns of Tommy Edman and Kiké Hernández have reduced his role, making him a possible trade candidate.

His value on the market is boosted by the limited availability of right-handed hitters and the fact that he remains under team control through the 2029 season, giving interested clubs several years of team control rather than a short-term rental.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale also suggested Call could be included in a potential trade package for Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal. He proposed a package featuring pitcher Emmet Sheehan, Call, and one of the Dodgers’ top prospects. However, it remains uncertain whether Detroit has genuine interest in Call or whether the suggestion was purely speculative.

Regardless, Call appears to have generated considerable attention across the league and is widely expected to be wearing a different uniform after the trade deadline.

Dodgers Also Exploring Trade Options for Ryan Ward

Alex Call is not the only Dodgers outfielder who could be moved. Ryan Ward is also viewed as a likely trade candidate before the deadline.

The 28-year-old finally reached the major leagues this season after spending seven years in the minors. During two stints with Los Angeles, he appeared in 20 games, batting .218 with three home runs, 12 RBIs, and a .738 OPS.

Ward has demonstrated that he has the ability to contribute regularly in the majors, but breaking into the Dodgers’ lineup remains difficult due to their star-studded outfield and deep pipeline of highly regarded outfield prospects.

According to The Athletic, the Dodgers are considering moving additional players as they adjust their 40-man roster. Ward has reportedly been discussed in trade talks and could appeal to teams seeking offensive help in left field, at first base, or in the designated hitter role.

A potential deal involving Ward could resemble the Dodgers’ 2024 trade of Michael Busch, when Los Angeles acquired younger prospects Zyhir Hope and Jackson Ferris. Both players have since developed into two of the organization’s top prospects, reinforcing the Dodgers’ reputation for turning young talent into future contributors.
