Ravens Sign Ex-Jets Draft Bust Ahead of Season Opener

A former New York Jets draft disappointment is getting another opportunity to extend his NFL career.

ESPN NFL Insider Jeremy Fowler reported on X that offensive lineman Chuma Edoga “plans to sign with the Baltimore Ravens.”

Edoga, 29, entered the NFL after the Jets selected him 92nd overall in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He spent his first three and a half seasons in New York before the Jets released him during their final roster cuts in August 2022.

During his time with the Jets, Edoga appeared in 22 games and started 10. Although his tenure in New York never developed as hoped, he has managed to establish himself as a reliable depth option around the league.

Edoga’s NFL Journey

After departing New York, the former USC offensive lineman joined the Atlanta Falcons during the 2022 season. He later spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys before signing a two-year, $7 million contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars last offseason.

His time in Jacksonville came to an end over the weekend when the Jaguars released him as part of their final roster cuts.

Jaguars on SI writer John Shipley described Edoga as the most notable veteran Jacksonville moved on from, noting that the team had signed him a year earlier as part of the new regime’s initial free-agent class. Although Edoga saw limited action last season, he provided valuable depth when injuries affected the offensive line.

Edoga faced an uphill battle to secure a roster spot after Jacksonville drafted Emmanuel Pregnon, which pushed him further down the offensive-line depth chart. When Patrick Mekari was unable to practice during training camp, Edoga appeared to have another opportunity, but the Jaguars instead brought in veteran lineman Daniel Faalele.

Ultimately, Jacksonville had to choose between Edoga and 2025 third-round pick Wyatt Milum for the final offensive-line spot. While Milum reportedly struggled during training camp, his age and draft status gave him the edge, leading the Jaguars to move on from Edoga.

Now, Edoga gets another chance with Baltimore. He is entering his eighth NFL season and has played in 62 career games, including 25 starts.

Jets Remain Active Ahead of 2026 Season

Meanwhile, the Jets continue making adjustments to their roster with the 2026 season approaching.

On Wednesday, September 2, New York worked out three kickers, with longtime veteran Justin Tucker being the biggest name among them. Tucker has established himself as one of the greatest kickers in NFL history, although the Jets will also have to consider the off-field concerns surrounding him as part of their evaluation.

The Jets also released tight end Chase Curtis with an injury settlement, allowing him to pursue an opportunity with another team before the start of the season.

New York has brought in two additional players for workouts this week. Long snapper Garrison Grimes, who was with the team during the offseason, received another look, while veteran offensive lineman Brant Banks was also among the players evaluated.

With the regular season nearing, the Jets are continuing to explore every option as they finalize their roster.
