Dodgers Acquire Kris Bubic from Royals
The Los Angeles Dodgers have added more pitching depth by acquiring left-handed pitcher Kris Bubic from the Kansas City Royals, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. In exchange, Kansas City receives right-handed pitching prospect Carlos Duran, per MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand. Because Bubic is currently on the Royals’ 60-day injured list, he will not occupy a spot on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster until he is activated.
Bubic, 28, has spent all seven seasons of his major league career with Kansas City. Over 522 career innings, he has compiled a 4.14 ERA, along with a 22.1% strikeout rate and a 45.7% ground-ball rate. His production in 2026 has been similar, as he posted a 4.11 ERA across 50⅓ innings in nine starts.
This season, Bubic has improved his strikeout rate to 24.6%, slightly above last year’s 24.4%, but he has also issued walks at a career-high 12.6% clip. He has benefited from some favorable batted-ball luck as well, with opponents recording just a .256 batting average on balls in play, significantly lower than both the league average and his career mark of .309.
Injuries have limited Bubic’s availability this season. He was placed on the injured list in May because of soreness in his throwing elbow. After beginning a rehab assignment in late June, he experienced shoulder discomfort that forced Kansas City to halt his recovery for 10 days. According to the Royals’ latest injury update, Bubic has resumed throwing but remains in the early stages of his program. Following his lengthy absence, he will require another minor league rehab assignment before he is ready to return to major league action.
