San Francisco Giants Provide Willy Adames Update After Red Sox Series
The San Francisco Giants endured a frustrating weekend against the Boston Red Sox, losing all three games and getting swept in Sunday afternoon’s series finale.
It has been a difficult season for San Francisco, which has been out of the playoff race for some time. Even so, the Giants still have games left to play, and Sunday brought another setback when star infielder Willy Adames was forced to leave with an apparent elbow injury.
Adames injured his left elbow during an awkward slide into home plate in the first inning. He initially remained in the game but was eventually replaced defensively before the bottom of the fifth.
The Giants suffered another injury later in the same inning when Bericoto hurt his right knee while chasing a foul ball. The play was ruled an out because of fan interference, and Drew Gilbert pinch-hit for him to begin the sixth inning.
Willy Adames Set for Elbow MRI
Multiple reports indicate that Adames will undergo an MRI on his injured elbow.
The results will provide a clearer picture of the injury and determine whether he can return this season. If the damage is significant, Adames could potentially miss the remainder of the 2026 campaign.
Adames went 1-for-3 before leaving Sunday’s game and had been producing well at the plate recently. He had recorded at least one hit in nine of his previous 11 games, batting .333 with three home runs, four RBI, five runs scored and a stolen base during that stretch.
If the Giants place Adames on the injured list, Christian Koss could take over for him in the lineup and at his position.
Looking at Adames’ Season
Despite the Giants’ struggles, Adames has remained a regular fixture in the lineup throughout the season.
Through 120 games, the 30-year-old is hitting .229 with 21 home runs, 25 doubles and 51 RBI. His OPS+ is exactly 100, putting him at league average offensively.
Adames has also accumulated 1.8 bWAR. However, if the elbow injury ends his season, his 2026 campaign will finish with declines across several major offensive categories compared with his previous years.
For now, the Giants will await the MRI results before determining the severity of Adames’ injury and how long he could be sidelined.
