The Tennessee Volunteers have missed on a major recruiting target in the 2027 recruiting class.
The Tennessee Volunteers continued building momentum on Friday by securing a commitment from one of their top remaining offensive line targets. The newest addition to the class is Niko Kampas, an offensive tackle from London, England, who plays for the NFL Academy. With his pledge, Kampas becomes the 17th member of Tennessee’s recruiting class.
Although Kampas’ commitment marked a significant recruiting victory, Tennessee was also pursuing another key target later in the day. The Volunteers were hoping to add four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole, a standout defensive back from Macon, Georgia, as they looked to strengthen the defensive side of their recruiting class.
Ta’Shawn Poole Makes His Commitment
Poole has officially revealed his college decision, choosing between Georgia, Florida State, and Tennessee. In the end, the four-star safety announced his commitment to Florida State.
The decision is a disappointing outcome for Tennessee, especially after the Volunteers were once viewed as the favorite to secure his pledge. Although momentum shifted in recent months and the Vols remained in contention, they ultimately fell short in the recruiting battle.
Tennessee already has multiple safeties committed in its recruiting class, but Poole was widely considered one of the program’s top remaining defensive targets. Had he chosen the Volunteers, he likely would have been among the top defensive back commits, alongside Marcus Jones, who is currently the highest-rated safety in the class.
Whether Tennessee will continue recruiting Poole remains to be seen. If the Volunteers hope to flip his commitment before the early signing period, they will need to make a significant push in the coming months.
