Titans Add Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Ahead of Training Camp
As training camp approaches, Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi continues to fine-tune the roster, bringing in a familiar face with championship experience.
The Titans are set to open training camp next week at the Vanderbilt Health Football Center in Nashville. Before players report, the team has already made several roster adjustments. On Thursday, Tennessee placed safety Amani Hooker and offensive tackle JC Latham on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, waived offensive tackle Ryan Hayes, and signed Zachary Thomas to take his place.
Borgonzi wasn’t finished making moves. On Friday, the Titans agreed to sign veteran cornerback Nazeeh Johnson, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. Johnson’s representation, Katz Bros., later confirmed the signing through NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Johnson was limited to just two appearances in 2025 after suffering a shoulder injury, but when healthy, he has proven to be a dependable depth option at cornerback and a strong contributor on special teams. During his rookie campaign in 2022, he earned an impressive 85.6 Pro Football Focus special teams grade.
The former Marshall standout has also started six games at outside corner during his NFL career, recording three pass breakups while allowing opponents to complete 62.7% of passes thrown his way on 51 targets.
Johnson Has a Legitimate Chance to Make the Final Roster
Johnson’s versatility on special teams significantly boosts his chances of earning a spot on Tennessee’s 53-man roster. His ability to contribute on kickoff coverage, kick returns, and punt coverage makes him a valuable depth piece.
His physical style of play also aligns well with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s aggressive defensive philosophy. With the Titans’ cornerback depth lacking established options, Johnson has a realistic opportunity to secure one of the final roster spots if he performs well during training camp.
Alontae Taylor, Cor’Dale Flott, Marcus Harris, and Joshua Williams are widely viewed as strong bets to make the team, leaving Johnson to compete for one of the remaining positions. His championship experience, special teams value, and defensive versatility could help him earn a role on Tennessee’s 2026 roster.
