Proposed Trade Would Send Eagles Star Jalen Carter to Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings could consider making a major splash to strengthen their defensive front, with one recent proposal suggesting they pursue Philadelphia Eagles standout defensive tackle Jalen Carter. Competing in the highly competitive NFC North against quarterbacks such as Caleb Williams, Jordan Love, and Jared Goff, Minnesota understands the importance of generating consistent pressure to disrupt opposing passing attacks.

After parting ways with Jonathan Greenard during the offseason, the Vikings are expected to rely heavily on Dallas Turner to help replace that production. However, some analysts believe Minnesota could further bolster its defense by targeting an elite interior lineman capable of transforming the unit.

FanSided’s Wynston Wilcox recently identified the Vikings as one of several realistic landing spots for Carter should Philadelphia decide to entertain trade offers. While constructing a deal would be challenging, Wilcox suggested Minnesota could build a package centered primarily around valuable draft picks. He also mentioned quarterback J.J. McCarthy as a theoretical trade chip but acknowledged that such a move appears unlikely given the Eagles’ current commitment to Jalen Hurts, whose contract keeps him under team control for several more seasons.

Because the Vikings lack surplus talent at positions like wide receiver, assembling a competitive trade package without sacrificing key contributors would likely require significant draft capital. Even so, acquiring a player of Carter’s caliber could justify the steep cost if he were truly available.

Carter continued to demonstrate his value during the 2025 season by serving as one of the Eagles’ most productive defensive linemen. Over 640 defensive snaps, he earned a 60.0 overall Pro Football Focus grade while recording 41 quarterback pressures, three sacks, 30 hurries, and eight quarterback hits. He also made 18 solo tackles against the run, showcasing his ability to impact games in multiple ways.

Minnesota did invest in the future of its defensive line through the draft after moving on from veterans Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. The selections of Domonique Orange and Caleb Banks provide promising long-term options at defensive tackle. Nevertheless, adding a proven difference-maker like Carter could significantly accelerate the team’s pursuit of a championship, even if it temporarily limits opportunities for the rookies.

Wilcox argued that elite players rarely become available and that teams with Super Bowl aspirations should be willing to pay a premium for game-changing talent. Carter’s combination of youth, athleticism, and disruptive ability would immediately elevate Minnesota’s defensive front and provide another cornerstone for defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

If the Vikings ultimately decide against sacrificing valuable draft assets, they may instead turn to the free-agent market for additional pass-rushing help. CBS Sports’ Bryan DeArdo recently identified veteran edge rusher Haason Reddick as a logical fit for Minnesota. Although Reddick’s sack totals have declined over the past two seasons, he continued to generate consistent pressure despite battling injuries.

During his 2025 campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Reddick played 571 defensive snaps, recording 34 quarterback pressures, three sacks, 29 hurries, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble, and 24 solo tackles. While his overall Pro Football Focus grade stood at 57.2, his experience and ability to pressure opposing quarterbacks could provide Minnesota with another affordable option to strengthen its defense without giving up future draft picks.
