Tennessee Vols Poised to Land Top 2026 Recruit Over Ohio State
The Tennessee Vols have been on a recruiting hot streak this month, and they may be about to add another major prospect to their class.
Four-star offensive lineman JB Shabazz, a 2026 recruit, will announce his commitment on Friday, July 11. His final three schools are Ohio State, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
On Tuesday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Chad Simmons predicted that Tennessee will come out on top in the race for Shabazz.
“Our sources suggest that the Vols are going to be hard to beat,” said Simmons.
Shabazz, standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 295 pounds, hails from Kernersville, North Carolina. He is ranked as the No. 29 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 16 player in North Carolina, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
VolQuest’s Matt Ray discussed Tennessee’s strong position on Tuesday during an appearance on 104.5 The Zone’s Ramon and Will show, explaining why he believes the Vols are in great shape to land Shabazz.
“JB Shabazz hasn’t taken many visits and hasn’t been very vocal in his recruitment,” Ray said. “But I think Tennessee made a strong impression during his official visit in June. They showed him a lot, and I think he really connected with offensive line coach Glen Elarbee. Tennessee is definitely in a strong position to land Shabazz this week.”
Ray acknowledged that South Carolina won’t back down easily and that Ohio State remains a contender, but he noted Tennessee’s recent momentum in the recruitment.
“I think Tennessee has gained some real traction after their visit with him,” Ray said. “I wouldn’t have said this was as likely heading into June, but now Tennessee is a very real contender to land Shabazz.”
Shabazz will announce his commitment on Instagram at 6:00 PM ET on Friday.
