Red Sox Get Mead News
On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox will try to complete a series sweep of the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park.
Boston has already taken the first two games of the series.
The Red Sox secured the latest victory on Saturday, edging the Giants 3-2.
UPDATE: The Red Sox won 5-4.
Before Sunday’s matchup, Ian Browne of MLB.com provided an update on Curtis Mead’s injury status.
Mead has been sidelined since July 27 while recovering from the injury.
Browne reported that Mead is scheduled to undergo another scan to determine how much his fractured left wrist has healed.
Mead joined the Red Sox earlier this season after being acquired in a trade involving the Washington Nationals.
Unfortunately, he appeared in just one game for Boston before suffering the injury that landed him on the sidelines.
ESPN’s Buster Olney questioned the cost of the deal at the time, noting that Boston gave up a significant prospect in Connelly Early. However, Olney also pointed out that quality right-handed bats were difficult to find on the trade market, making Mead a valuable target given the strong season he was having.
Looking At Mead
Mead spent the first two seasons of his major-league career with the Tampa Bay Rays before moving around the league with brief stops with the Chicago White Sox and Washington Nationals.
Prior to suffering the injury, the 25-year-old was enjoying a productive 2026 campaign. Through 88 games, Mead was hitting .253 with 72 hits, 17 home runs, 48 RBIs, 49 runs scored and six stolen bases.
Despite remaining in a cast, Mead has since returned to Boston after briefly stepping away from the team while his wife gave birth. MassLive’s Chris Cotillo reported that Mead has resumed playing catch, with someone else handling the catching duties while he continues his recovery.
Looking At Boston Right Now
Following Sunday’s matchup against the Giants, the Red Sox will hit the road for a series against the Miami Marlins. The three-game set is scheduled to begin Monday night in Miami.
Boston currently sits in third place in the American League East with a 70-59 record through 129 games.
