Vanderbilt Baseball Adds Another Pitcher Through the Transfer Portal
Although the NCAA transfer portal has closed, Vanderbilt baseball continues to strengthen its roster. On Wednesday night, the Commodores secured another addition to their pitching staff with the commitment of left-handed pitcher Dominic Monaco from Western Kentucky.
Monaco announced his decision on Instagram, sharing an image of himself in a Vanderbilt uniform alongside the message, “Anchor Down.”
The 6-foot-3 left-hander spent the past two seasons at Western Kentucky. In 2026, he made 12 appearances, including six starts, finishing with a 1-3 record and a 7.20 ERA across 20 innings. He surrendered 16 earned runs on 14 hits while striking out 29 batters, highlighting his ability to generate swings and misses despite the elevated ERA. Over his collegiate career, Monaco owns an 8.03 ERA.
Originally from Arrington, Tennessee, Monaco returns to his home state as he prepares for his junior season.
While his statistical results may not immediately stand out, Vanderbilt appears to be betting on his upside. His strikeout numbers suggest he possesses the raw talent that head coach Tim Corbin and the Commodores’ coaching staff believe they can further develop.
Monaco becomes Vanderbilt’s second pitching addition from the transfer portal this offseason. Earlier, the Commodores landed USC right-hander Gavin Lauridsen, who posted a 4.79 ERA during his freshman campaign.
Given his limited experience as a starter, Monaco is expected to compete primarily for a bullpen role rather than an immediate spot in the weekend rotation. However, if pitching coach Scott Brown helps refine his mechanics and consistency, Monaco could become a valuable relief option.
Pitching was one of Vanderbilt’s biggest weaknesses during the 2026 season. Injuries forced several younger arms into larger roles than anticipated, while veteran pitchers also struggled to consistently deliver strong performances.
Even so, Vanderbilt has added only two pitchers through the transfer portal, suggesting the coaching staff has confidence in its returning arms and incoming freshman class. As Monaco joins the program, the Commodores will look to maximize his potential and determine how he can contribute in Nashville.
