Florida State Secures Commitment From Top-100 Safety Ta’Shawn Poole
Florida State landed one of its biggest recruiting victories of the 2027 cycle after four-star safety Ta’Shawn Poole committed to the Seminoles over SEC rivals Georgia and Tennessee.
Recruiting hasn’t been smooth for FSU this offseason, with the Seminoles falling short in several high-profile battles. That makes Poole’s decision an important boost for head coach Mike Norvell and his staff as they continue building the program’s future.
Poole, a consensus top-100 prospect, announced his commitment Friday evening, giving Florida State one of its most significant recruiting wins of the summer. Although his pledge is non-binding until the Early Signing Period, beating out powerhouse programs like Georgia and Tennessee highlights the strength of the relationships FSU established during his recruitment.
Those connections, particularly with safeties coach Evan Cooper and Norvell, played a major role in Poole’s decision. His commitment also elevates him to the highest-ranked player in Florida State’s 2027 recruiting class, known as #Tribe27.
The Seminoles have also enjoyed a productive stretch in the secondary, adding both Poole and four-star defensive back Za’Kari Johnson in the same week.
Poole showcased his versatility during his junior season at Howard High School in Georgia. Defensively, he recorded 37 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and two interceptions. On offense, he caught 30 passes for 454 yards and seven touchdowns while rushing 33 times for 200 yards and four additional scores. He also returned a punt for a touchdown.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 185 pounds, Poole is ranked as the No. 64 overall player in the nation, the No. 6 safety, and the No. 5 prospect in Georgia for the 2027 recruiting class, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
