FSU Football extends offer to nation’s top-ranked running back
Florida State is continuing its aggressive push on the recruiting trail as the coaching staff travels during the offseason, focusing on strengthening the #Tribe27 class—currently outside the top tier of national rankings—as well as laying groundwork for future cycles.
With spring practice completed and preseason camp still months away, head coach Mike Norvell and his revamped staff are emphasizing recruiting as a key priority. A major focus is whether the new assistant coaches can translate on-field expertise into recruiting momentum.
Among those assistants, running backs coach Kam Martin has quickly developed a strong reputation despite being early in his coaching career. He has coached a 1,000-yard rusher in each of the past four seasons at different programs, and he’s now working to secure his first commitment at Florida State.
FSU targets No. 1 RB in 2028 class
Florida State recently offered a scholarship to four-star running back Ian Thomas, the top-ranked player at his position in the 2028 class and a top-100 national prospect. Thomas shared the news on social media, highlighting a conversation with Martin as part of the process.
Thomas has drawn interest from several major programs, including Florida, Texas Tech, Kentucky, Arizona State, TCU, Houston, Cal, and Baylor. He has already taken visits to Houston in March and Baylor in late April, though he has not yet visited Florida State.
For the Seminoles, getting Thomas on campus is seen as an important next step in building momentum in his recruitment.
As a sophomore at Tomball High School, Thomas posted standout numbers: 203 carries for 1,528 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns, along with 13 receptions for 212 yards and two more scores. He surpassed 100 rushing yards in 10 of 12 games, including a 174-yard, three-touchdown performance against Klein Forest.
The 6-foot, 185-pound standout is currently ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 running back in his class, the No. 39 overall prospect nationally, and the No. 5 player in Texas.
