Wildcats Welcome Top Remaining Transfer Big Man
Arizona is still shaping its roster for the upcoming basketball season and is hosting one of the top remaining big men in the transfer portal. Former FAU center Devin Williams is visiting Tucson to meet with head coach Tommy Lloyd.
The sophomore started all 33 games for the Owls last season, averaging 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game. His shot-blocking stood out nationally, finishing among the top five in blocks per game.
At 6-foot-10, Williams is one of the most sought-after big men still available. In addition to Arizona, he has drawn interest from programs like North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, and several other high-major schools.
Potential Impact Alongside Krivas
If he joins the Wildcats, Williams could help maintain the team’s interior presence, especially when Motiejus Krivas is off the floor. Together, they could form one of the stronger defensive frontcourt pairings in the country.
Offensively, Williams would add value as a lob target and pick-and-roll option. He could also provide support for backup point guard J.J. Mandaquit and strengthen a bench unit that currently lacks size and depth in the frontcourt.
Background and Recruitment
Originally from Corona, California, Williams began his college career at UCLA, where he saw limited action in 10 games. Seeking a larger role, he transferred to FAU and made a significant impact.
Coming out of high school as a four-star prospect, he received offers from several major programs, including Washington, San Diego State, UCLA, and Texas Tech. His initial decision to stay close to home led him to UCLA.
Recruitment Still Open
While Arizona is making a strong push, Williams’ recruitment remains wide open. Schools like North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech are still in the mix as he weighs his options.
A Key Opportunity for Arizona
For Tommy Lloyd and his staff, landing Williams would address a pressing need for frontcourt depth. While he may not dramatically shift expectations, his rim protection and ability to spell Krivas would be valuable assets.
With limited options left in the portal, this visit could be crucial for Arizona as it looks to finalize a competitive roster for next season.
