Rockets officially add veteran sharpshooter Bogdan Bogdanovic
The Houston Rockets have taken a measured approach to the offseason following their disappointing first-round exit from the 2026 NBA Playoffs.
Their biggest move so far has been locking up forward Tari Eason with a five-year, $81.5 million contract extension. Houston also reportedly reached a two-year, $13 million agreement with veteran guard Marcus Smart, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
On the other side of the roster, the Rockets traded Dorian Finney-Smith to the Charlotte Hornets in a salary-clearing move and are expected to lose Josh Okogie, who is reportedly joining the Utah Jazz.
Rockets make Bogdan Bogdanovic signing official
Looking to strengthen their perimeter shooting and backcourt depth, Houston has officially signed veteran guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. While Marcus Smart is expected to provide ball-handling and defensive versatility, Bogdanovic adds proven shooting and scoring experience.
The Rockets announced the signing in a team press release and welcomed the veteran to Houston on social media.
“OFFICIAL: The Houston Rockets today announced they have signed free agent guard Bogdan Bogdanovic. H-Town, help us welcome @bogdanbogdanovic to the city.”
Although the team did not reveal contract details, Spotrac reported that Bogdanovic signed a one-year deal worth $3.88 million. He will carry a $2.45 million salary cap hit and cannot be traded until Dec. 15, 2026.
Charania first reported the agreement last week, noting that Rockets executives actively recruited the veteran wing before reaching a deal.
“Free agent Bogdan Bogdanovic has agreed to a one-year deal with the Houston Rockets,” Charania posted. “Rockets executives recruited Bogdanovic tonight and now land an established, playoff-tested shooter for his 10th NBA season.”
Bogdanovic had previously been connected to the Denver Nuggets before ultimately choosing Houston. The 33-year-old is coming off an injury-shortened season with the Los Angeles Clippers, where he averaged 7.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 23 appearances.
While he shot 34.7% from three-point range last season, Bogdanovic owns a career 38.1% mark from beyond the arc. He also serves as one of Serbia’s primary playmakers alongside Nikola Jokic in international competition.
Fans welcome the addition
The signing drew positive reactions from fans on X, many of whom praised the Rockets for adding another reliable perimeter threat.
Several users highlighted Bogdanovic’s playoff experience and outside shooting, while others pointed to his career 38% three-point accuracy as a valuable addition to Houston’s offense. Some fans also expressed hope that the veteran’s shooting would help address one of the team’s biggest weaknesses from last season.
Bogdanovic is expected to provide scoring punch, floor spacing and secondary playmaking off the bench, giving the Rockets another experienced option in their backcourt rotation.
