A big win over an in-state rival for Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels
North Carolina secured a notable recruiting victory on Saturday, earning a commitment from three-star defensive lineman Kaiden Robinson-Vickers over fellow finalists NC State and UCF.
The talented prospect made his decision after taking official visits to all three programs, ultimately choosing to become part of the Tar Heels’ 2027 recruiting class. With his pledge, Robinson-Vickers becomes the first defensive lineman committed to North Carolina in the cycle.
Although UCF offered the advantage of staying in-state and NC State remained heavily involved throughout his recruitment, Robinson-Vickers was particularly intrigued by the opportunity to play under legendary head coach Bill Belichick.
During a spring visit to Chapel Hill, Robinson-Vickers spoke about the impact Belichick had on his recruitment.
According to the recruit, Belichick made it clear how highly he was valued by the program and outlined a vision for him as an impactful edge rusher and defensive end. The two also spent significant time discussing how he would fit within North Carolina’s culture and defensive scheme.
Robinson-Vickers added that Belichick walked him through the day-to-day expectations of being a Tar Heel football player, including the structure of team activities, meals, and academic responsibilities. The Hall of Fame coach also encouraged him to visit campus again to get a firsthand look at the program and everything it has to offer.
According to 247Sports, Robinson-Vickers is rated as the No. 62 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 32 overall prospect in Florida. He currently holds an 88 rating.
The Florida native emerged as a standout during his junior campaign, helping lead Dunnellon High School to an 8-6 record and a Florida FHSAA FIT 1 (1A-3A) state championship. Robinson-Vickers filled up the stat sheet, recording 55 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, one pass breakup, and a fumble recovery. He is set to continue his high school career at Hawthorne High School for his senior season.
With Robinson-Vickers now on board, North Carolina’s 2027 recruiting class has grown to 12 commitments. He also becomes the Tar Heels’ eighth pledge during a busy and productive month of June on the recruiting trail.
