Elite 2028 EDGE Darieon Prescott Commits to Notre Dame
Notre Dame secured a major recruiting victory on Monday as Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School edge rusher Darieon Prescott announced his commitment to the Fighting Irish.
The highly regarded defender selected Notre Dame over fellow finalists Oregon and Texas A&M, giving head coach Marcus Freeman an early cornerstone for the program’s 2028 recruiting class.
Prescott said Notre Dame’s culture and atmosphere ultimately made the difference in his decision.
“The culture really stood out to me,” Prescott said. “I love the environment, the way they play, and the coaching staff. Their ability to develop players and what they put on the field made Notre Dame feel like the right place.”
According to the Rivals Industry Rankings, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound prospect is the No. 1 player in Illinois, the No. 5 edge rusher nationally, and the No. 18 overall recruit in the 2028 class. He becomes the third commitment in Notre Dame’s 2028 recruiting class, with defensive line coach Charlie Partridge serving as his primary recruiter.
Prescott also credited Freeman and Partridge for creating a family atmosphere throughout the recruiting process.
“What stands out most is the way Coach Freeman and Coach P carry themselves,” Prescott said. “The entire defensive line group feels like a family. Coach Freeman genuinely cares about his players on a deeper level than a lot of college coaches, and that really meant something to me.”
The talented pass rusher is eager to help establish the foundation for Notre Dame’s 2028 class and compete for championships in South Bend.
He also pointed to the Fighting Irish’s game-day atmosphere as another key factor in his commitment.
“The game-day experience at Notre Dame is unlike anything else,” Prescott said. “It’s something that really stood out to me.”
By committing early, Prescott hopes to help set the tone for the rest of the 2028 class.
“My coach always tells us to set the standard,” he said. “Committing early is my way of doing that. I’m not trying to pressure anyone, but if a school feels right and your heart tells you it’s the place, don’t be afraid to take that leap.”
