Notre Dame Makes Final Cut for One of Nation’s Top Pass Rushers

Notre Dame Among Finalists for Top 2027 Pass Rusher Mekai Brown

Notre Dame could be in line for one of its most significant 2027 commitments after a whirlwind week for highly rated defensive end Mekai Brown from Greenwich, Connecticut.

Mekai Brown’s Notre Dame Visit

Brown, ranked the No. 8 edge rusher and No. 49 overall prospect in the 2027 class by 247Sports, originally planned to attend the Blue-Gold Game on April 24. However, he moved up his visit to South Bend this past weekend, describing the experience as a “great time.”

Following his trip, Brown indicated he’s ready to wrap up his recruitment.

Commitment Timeline and Final Schools

The 6-foot-6, 235-pound edge rusher is now down to five finalists: Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Ohio State, and USC. He has set a commitment announcement for Friday, April 17, at 10:30 a.m. ET.

While his recent visit to Notre Dame fuels speculation that the Fighting Irish could be his choice, some indicators point toward USC. Reports suggest Brown wanted to complete his Notre Dame visit before officially committing, possibly due to USC’s policy restricting further visits once a player signs a pledge.

Recruiting analysts note that while things can always change, the current expectation is that Brown may select the Trojans, having taken care of his final Notre Dame visit beforehand.

Either way, his decision will be one of the most high-profile announcements in the early 2027 cycle, and fans will be watching closely on Friday morning.
