Oregon Makes Early Push for Four-Star Cornerback Jermaine Cobbins
The Oregon Ducks continue to expand their recruiting efforts, making 2028 four-star cornerback Jermaine Cobbins one of their top priorities. Even while head coach Dan Lanning represented the program at Big Ten Media Days in Chicago, Oregon’s recruiting staff remained active, strengthening its pursuit of the Tennessee standout.
Ducks Leave Strong First Impression
As Oregon assembles one of the nation’s top 2027 recruiting classes, the coaching staff is already laying the foundation for 2028. Springfield, Tennessee, defensive back Jermaine Cobbins has quickly emerged as a key target.
Following a spring visit to Eugene, Cobbins spoke positively about his experience, praising the Ducks’ facilities, coaching staff, and overall atmosphere. He expressed particular appreciation for defensive coordinator Chris Hampton and enjoyed meeting Dan Lanning, describing the head coach as energetic and welcoming. Cobbins also said he hopes to return for a game-day visit at Autzen Stadium this fall.
Speed and Athleticism Stand Out
Oregon has consistently prioritized speed under Lanning, and Cobbins fits that mold perfectly. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back has established himself as one of the fastest players in the 2028 class.
His athleticism has been on full display, including a memorable 100-yard interception return for a touchdown during his sophomore season. Offensively, he has also demonstrated big-play ability as a receiver, using his speed to separate from defenders and create explosive plays. Despite his lean frame, Cobbins shows impressive strength by breaking tackles before accelerating into the open field.
Although he contributes on both sides of the ball, his long-term future appears to be at cornerback. Along with elite speed, he displays strong instincts and football intelligence, quickly recognizing plays such as wide receiver screens and reacting decisively.
Potential Future Fit in Eugene
Oregon continues to stockpile talent in its secondary, already securing several highly regarded defensive backs in its 2027 class. Looking ahead, Cobbins could become another key addition, especially if current standout Brandon Finney Jr. eventually leaves for the NFL.
The Ducks have a history of targeting versatile athletes who excel at both wide receiver and cornerback, making Cobbins a natural fit for the program’s recruiting philosophy.
Competition Remains Intense
Landing Cobbins won’t be easy. Ohio State currently appears to have early momentum in his recruitment, while national powers including LSU, Texas, and Texas A&M are also heavily involved.
Even so, Oregon has positioned itself as a serious contender. If the Ducks can ultimately win the recruiting battle, Cobbins has the talent and versatility to become one of the centerpiece commitments in their 2028 recruiting class.
