Eagles floated as potential landing spot for former MVP QB amid Jalen Hurts uncertainty
Despite Philadelphia’s recent success with Jalen Hurts, questions about his long-term future with the team are beginning to surface heading into the 2026 season.
The Eagles recently moved on from wide receiver A.J. Brown, trading him to the New England Patriots on June 1, but speculation around Hurts’ role remains. Some around the league believe he could be on shaky ground if Philadelphia doesn’t make another deep playoff run next season.
Adding to the scrutiny, ESPN reported that multiple anonymous sources close to the organization placed significant blame on Hurts for the team’s struggles last year. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has also suggested Hurts could be on the trade block next offseason if he doesn’t return to his 2022 form, when he finished second in MVP voting after throwing for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
NFL insider Jason La Canfora has since added that league chatter suggests the Eagles could be open to a major quarterback change sooner rather than later if things don’t improve.
La Canfora noted that Philadelphia has shown a willingness under general manager Howie Roseman to make bold, even aggressive roster decisions, including at quarterback. While Hurts has delivered in key postseason moments—including a Super Bowl run—concerns reportedly remain about offensive inconsistency and his reluctance to push the ball downfield, which some believe has contributed to broader locker room tension.
He also pointed out that the Eagles could explore high-profile alternatives if needed, including the possibility of a trade for a two-time MVP like Lamar Jackson, or potentially targeting a quarterback from the highly regarded 2027 draft class.
One NFL executive told La Canfora that Roseman’s track record suggests he won’t hesitate to pivot if he believes a better option is available, emphasizing the team’s flexibility at the quarterback position.
Although a trade involving Jackson remains highly unlikely given his importance to the Baltimore Ravens, league rumors have occasionally hinted at exploratory conversations, keeping the idea—however remote—on the radar.
