We’re heading back to California.
Major League Baseball announced Friday that Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, will host the 2028 MLB All-Star Game. It will mark the first time San Francisco has hosted the Midsummer Classic since 2007 and just the fourth time the city has been selected as the event’s host, following previous games in 1961, 1984 and 2007.
The Giants, however, have hosted the All-Star Game six times in franchise history. Two of those appearances came when the team was still known as the New York Giants, with the Polo Grounds hosting the event in 1934 and 1942. The franchise moved from New York to San Francisco in 1958, the same year the Brooklyn Dodgers relocated to Los Angeles.
Giants president and CEO Larry Baer expressed his excitement about bringing baseball’s biggest stars back to San Francisco.
The organization is looking forward to welcoming players, fans and the baseball community from across the country and around the world while showcasing the city, the Giants and their passionate fan base.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred also praised San Francisco, saying the city will be an outstanding host for All-Star Week.
The 2026 All-Star Game was held at Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, while the 2027 edition is scheduled for Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs.
The announcement comes at a difficult point in the Giants’ current season. San Francisco entered Friday with a 50-71 record, placing 14th in the National League and 27th overall in MLB under first-year manager Tony Vitello.
The Giants are on track to finish below .500 for the third time in four seasons and could miss the postseason for a fifth consecutive year.
Still, with the 2028 All-Star Game now officially headed to Oracle Park, Giants fans have something exciting to look forward to despite the team’s current struggles.
